Written by Thomas Dalsøren
Thursday, 15 November 2007

Dalsøren Camping Centre is ideally situated on Highway 55 at the water's edge by the beautiful Luster Fjord. In addition to a large and spacious camping area we can offer 5 modern chalets with 4/6 beds, sitting room, kitchen, shower and also a large family chalet, fully furnished and equipped. 14 other chalets are also aviable at varying rental rates. (All the cabins have television).

We are strategically placed for trips to the Jotunheimen mountain area, the Nigard Glacier, Norway's oldest stavechurch, and the towns of Gaupne and Sogndal. In tourist circles Luster is renowed as a destination offering a wide range of natural attractions: Fjords, Mountains, glaciers, fertile valleys and idyllic areas.

Most of the toilette building is new this summer!

About Luster
Written by Thomas Dalsoren

Where Europe's longest fjord, the Sognefjord, stretches deep into the country and meets Jotunheimen and the Jostedalsbreen Glacier, you'll find the municipality of Luster.

Luster, which by area is one of the largest municipalities in southern Norway, is a fascinating part of Norway - a miniature of western Norway - with breathtaking fjords, steep mountains, water-abundant waterfalls, blue glaciers and luxuriant valleys.

The green and luxuriant spring in Luster is particularly beautiful. The contrasts in the nature are strong, with blooming fruit trees near the fjord and snow still covering the hill sides. Spring skiing has become a popular activity.

Explore the region where the rivers never run dry. Whether you travel by boat, train, car or on foot you can see waterfalls cascading down steep mountains. You can also enjoy fishing in wild rivers or deep, calm mountain lakes.
In Luster you can find the longest fjord in the world, the greatest glacier on the European mainland, the most alpine mountains in Northern Europe, rivers full of waters and one of the highest waterfalls in Norway. The scenery in Luster offer many contrasts, from fertile fields to barren high mountain scenery in the vicinity of the glaciers.

Luster offers many possibilities for hiking. You can make lighter family tours as well as more demanding peak climbing. Paths in the mountains are marked with signs so that it is easy to find one's way.

Info from the Sognefjord area

This district is a national park and is characterised by its high mountains and glaciers. Several of Norway’s highest mountains are found here. Jotunheimen also boasts a rich flora. There are wild reindeer in the western reaches of the national park, but domesticated reindeer otherwise dominates it.

Jotunheimen is a popular outdoor destination in both summer and winter. You can find all categories of hike here, you can fish in rivers and lakes, and it is possible to ski on prepared trails throughout the year. The Hurrungane range in western Jotunheimen is a magnet for rock climbers with its 24 peaks over 2.000 metres high.

Centrally situated between Oslo and Bergen, Sognefjord is one of Norway’s most spectacular hiking areas. The landscape by the Sognefjord can offer both easy family trips and more challenging peak and glacier hikes. All the Tourist Information Offices in the region sell route maps with text that describes the various routes and provides information about duration and levels of difficulty. Those who are looking for that special experience can book a tour with guide. You can also drive around the region or take a bus that leads you to the mountain district that you want to visit. The most popular hiking areas are:
